The Hebrew expression uses a noun that indicates what crooks do and the Greek word in this case has a meaning not quite central in its range. Basically its message is that of damage, but figuratively it is used to define the misdeeds of crooks.   Some scholars see the word "beliya‛al " as a compound of " bli = without" and "ya‛al = use", with thus a meaning of " uselessness" . Other suppose a message of " not going up". But the real message of "wickedness" or " crook " is quite a step further.   Note: Greek This Greek word means both "damage" and "misdeed". It is related to the verb " βλαπτω ", blapto = to damage, do wrong", in which the T is not part of the root . See entry GR 1153 (Hebrew 0246) .   Note: Proto-Semitic We find here perhaps an intensive form of a verb with a root that is the same seen in entries E 0346 (Hebrew 0244) and E 0660 (Hebrew 0245), That root is present in many Semitic tongues with a variety of meanings and certainly also in Proto-Semitic. But the second part remains unclear and with that no hypothesis can be made.
