Proto-Semitic *RADÀ --- *RIÐA Old Norse
The entries E 0731 (Hebrew 0808) and E 0732 (Hebrew 0809), are related to this one. We remark that also "radad", seen in E 0731 (Hebrew 0808), has a meaning somewhere near the one of "radà", namely "to conquer". The version "R D D" as in "radad" should be a development of "radà". Therefore the picture of roots and messages with "R D" is clear but intricate.
Note:
- Proto-Semitic. It is not fully certain that the root of this entry is the same found in entry E 0731 "(Hebrew 0808) . Anyhow, in the sense of the actual entry, it is found in Aramaic "ר ד א, red'à = he ruled, chastized" . It may have been present in Proto-Semitic : "*ר ד , R D (+ accentuated vowel).
Note:
- Proto-Germanic. It is only in Old Norse that we have found this specific meaning of dominating and ruling. This meaning may have derived from those of "treading down, beating down", served by the same or identical Hebrew root "ר ד ה, R . D + accentuated vowel, radà" of entry E 0731 (Hebrew 0808) . But this is not sufficient for a specific hypothesis for Proto-Germanic.
