Proto-Semitic *PER‛À --- *PERUC-AT Provençal
Just one of those things that may happen. According to a common view, a Provencale word has conquered, via French, the world. Yet it must be said that this is not fully certain. Anyhow about all languages have their derivation from this French word for "wig", including English.
We see the similarity with Hebrew, but cannot define the road from a far origin into Provencal of a root we do not find elsewhere. Some suppose that there is a relationship with French "pluche" , in English "plush", but that is very uncertain .
Note:
- Proto-Semitic. This root, with reference to hair, is found in Akkadian "pirtū = hair of the head" and Arabic "far‛ = long hair of a woman". The root was probably present in Proto-Semitic : "*פ ר ע , P R Ayin".
