Hebrew *KUMAZ --- *KOSM-OS Greek

A "kumaz" is an antique adornment for ladies. The word must have been derived from a root that has disappeared from the language, but that may have been "*K M Z" and have meant "to adorn".

There seems to be no basis for a supposition that this root would be related to "Q.M.TS = to grasp, take a handful", which is very far off in meaning .

Note:
  • Greek with this word has given one of its so many great contributions to the languages of the world. We have given some of its most important translations, from which it becomes clear that the basic concept lies in the order man found or created in great and small things. The odd thing is that the etymology of "kosmos" is simply unknown.

Note:
  • Greek and Hebrew. A woman creates order regarding her own person also with adornments. Here lies the narrow interface between Greek and Hebrew in this case. And it is still partly obscured by the metathesis between the two roots.

Note:
  • Proto-Semitic. The origin of this Hebrew word is quite unknown and we have no information to allow a hypothesis for Proto-Semitic.
